From the book of Acts we learn that Apollos was an outstanding orator in a world that loved and appreciated oratory. 2 Corinthians God, therefore, has designed that there be many teachers, many preachers, many viewpoints, in a church. I am sure there were many in Corinth who were saying, "Oh, I love to hear Apollos! (1Corinthians 1:17 RSV). Obviously sin is at the heart of these divisions, but I am encouraged to hear that at least in your corner of the world there is some unification and revival. He said so himself. And I say that because some people focus on PREACHER instead of THE SAVIOR. Divisions never really ended with Pauls letters; they just appear to have evolved into having more sophisticated names. Remember, a believer who is at war with his brother or sister in Christ cannot be at peace with our heavenly Father. Its pastors, bishops and others who fear the loss of their livlihoods as their former sheep move on in God towards the new wine skins of revival that want to maintain the old wine skins which brought them an income. Not when some people in the congregation wont look at, speak to, or even acknowledge the existence of certain other people in the congregation. In Matthew 12:25 the Lord Jesus says, Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and any city or house divided against itself shall not stand.. 5-Members going to pagan courts to settle disputes. For instance, in the Greco-Roman culture the practice of teacher-disciple relationships was often common and so many Christian converts in Corinth would associate themselves with a particular teacher and be under their discipleship. When I say worn out I mean people say that it is not usable in the modern world so its words become little more than foot rests in the pew. Every Navigator had to have a Scofield Reference Bible; that was the only "Authorized Version." Lovelessness among Christians is not a light thing.. So Paul is insisting that the Corinthians, and all believers, have doctrinal unity that is clearly based on Gods Word. Thats not the way a jigsaw puzzle was meant to be put together. I Corinthians 12:12,13 says, For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. The Corinthian Church. What happens when you get a tear in a piece of clothing and you keep washing and wearing that piece of clothing with the tear in it? Paul is going to go on to describe this radical force that is so different than anything else there is nothing like it in the world. The members started to develop division following different leaders. In fact, Paul never claims disciples. He then goes on to explain that it was the Corinthian wisdom that created so much disunity. DIVISIONS IN THE CHURCH I Corinthians 1 It seems so bland compared to all the other choices out there when really it presents and encourages people to live out a very different and exciting life in the opposite direction of the world. There are still others today who follow after some school of thought. DIVISIONS AND PERSONALITIES IN THE CHURCH 3- The presence of an immoral member. There is not a single teacher who ever lived who can heal the hurt of a broken heart, or supply energy and adequacy to someone who feels worthless and unable to function in society, not one. If it had been left up to us to plan the program by which God would change the world we would never have included a cross. But when each piece is fitted together into its proper place in the puzzle, you have a beautiful and complete picture. When you follow one man you are getting a view of Christ, but there is no teacher in the church who has ever come along -- including the Apostle Paul himself -- who has ever had a totally complete view of Christ.
